A Writer's Retreat in Wales!

I have some exciting news! Last week, I learned that I've been accepted to another Writer's Retreat. This time, I'm heading to Wales! The retreat takes place in June, which gives me several months to prepare, and I'm already thinking about what I'd like to accomplish before I get there.

My primary goal is to have What Walked the Boreen, Book One of my Irish Gothic series, fully drafted by the end of this year. I believe that's entirely doable. I still have some chapters to complete, but the finish line is within sight. Once the manuscript is complete, I can turn my attention to revisions in 2027. I'd like to give the story the time and attention it deserves rather than rushing through the process.

If all goes well, I may even have Book Two, The Hare's Wound, underway by the time June arrives. It's exciting to think that I could be moving from one book to the next, particularly as the first book enters its revision stage. There's something satisfying about seeing a series begin to take shape, not just as individual stories but as a larger creative undertaking.

And then there's Wales.

Although What Walked the Boreen and The Hare's Wound take place on Ireland's Dingle Peninsula, I suspect spending time in Wales could be incredibly inspiring. The landscapes, history, folklore, ancient places, and atmosphere all have the potential to stir my imagination. Ireland and Wales have their own distinct identities, of course, but they share a rich Celtic heritage. I wonder what unexpected connections or ideas might find their way into my writing.

One of the things I've learned from my previous retreat is that the experience doesn't necessarily end when the retreat does. Sometimes the most valuable part is what happens afterward, when I've had time to absorb everything, reconsider my work, and let new ideas develop. I expect Wales will offer its own lessons and inspirations.

For now, I have work to do. Finish What Walked the Boreen. Prepare for revisions. And, hopefully, start bringing The Hare's Wound to life.

I'm looking forward to the writing, but I'm also looking forward to the experience itself. A new place, new perspectives, conversations with other writers, and time devoted to the craft I love.

June suddenly seems a little closer, and I have every intention of making the most of the months between now and then.

Wales, here I come!
